Before contacting a colleague, consider the following:
Identify your professional need/goal (e.g., “I need help with…”, “My dream is to…”). If you are having difficulty shaping this as clearly as you might like, look for someone who is good at listening. Or reach out to our Faculty Development Director or Coordinator for support.
Consult this website as well as the videos in our Faculty Development Canvas Community, talk with colleagues, think about your network outside of CI, and identify who you know (or who you know who might know someone) who has expertise related to your professional needs and goals.
Request a meeting, and include a brief description of why you would like to meet (i.e., what your professional need/goal is). If this feels like it might be too forward, find a colleague who might introduce you or reach out to our Faculty Development Director to help introduce you.
Schedule a meeting and come prepared with questions related to your professional need/goal.
Be clear about your expectations and request for time.
Follow up with a thank you.
