Faculty in the process of developing a mentoring network:

  1. Check out The Mentoring Network page for an overview of what you should consider. 
  2. Reflect on your specific goals or needs, and then reach out with those specific goals/needs in mind (e.g., If you want to apply a large NSF grant, then you will want to talk with people who have done it already and ask them how, specifically, they went about winning it). If this seems daunting, find a good listener who will ask good questions as you refine your goals. You can reach out to our Faculty Development Director or Coordinator for help with this.
  3. Browse the list of faculty on the Mentor Advocates page [this list was developed in 2019 and is being updated and transferred to our Faculty Mentoring Canvas Community], to see their areas of expertise, interests, and experiences. Also, ask other colleagues about their experiences for ideas about who might be able to support you best.
  4. Do you see someone who might have knowledge, expertise, or a perspective that can help you with a particular goal or need? Refer to Contacting Mentors page for tips on how to reach out.

Faculty interested in offering collegial support:

  1. Submit your Mentoring Network Advocate video to be added to the Mentoring Network Canvas Community.
  2. Check out the Home Page, Building a Mentoring Network, and Mentoring Resources pages to learn more about the mentoring and networking philosophy driving CSUCI’s Mentoring Network.
  3. Respond to mentoring requests in a timely fashion and be clear about whether and how you are able to help the colleagues who reach out to you.
